The Universal Audio Bock 251 is a premium large-diaphragm tube condenser microphone designed by renowned microphone engineer David Bock. Inspired by the legendary ELA M 251, one of the most revered microphones in recording history, the Bock 251 combines vintage tube microphone tone with modern precision manufacturing and upgraded components.
Each microphone is handbuilt in the UA Custom Shop in Santa Cruz, California, featuring a German-made CK12 capsule, a large Cinemag output transformer and a NOS ECC85 vacuum tube for authentic classic microphone performance.
With switchable polar patterns and extended low-frequency response, the Bock 251 is designed for premium vocal recordings and high-end studio applications.
Sound Character
The Bock 251 delivers a smooth, open tube sound with airy high frequencies and deep, full low-end response.
Its combination of CK12 capsule, tube circuitry and large output transformer produces a natural transient response and a wide, three-dimensional soundstage. The microphone’s extended low-frequency response down to approximately 10 Hz allows recordings to retain depth and weight.
This tonal character makes the microphone particularly suitable for lead vocals, acoustic instruments, strings and room recordings.
